Only one more week until Pasqua! I am very excited. I have always enjoyed Easter quite a bit, it is a very nice holiday. With lots of good food, as any proper holiday should have!

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and then it is Holy Week.

I am also looking forward to having chocolate again. I have missed it very, very much!

I have been staying at the apartment of Vaughan and Jensen this week. It is like a vacation without having to leave the town at all! I like it very much.

Jensen is very nice. He helps me with some of my homework that I brought to do over the break, when I need it. We do that when Vaughan is working.

I miss chocolate very very much. I am excited for Pasqua! But that is still several weeks away.

Tomorrow is La Festa di San Giuseppe. I have been putting together my alter! Mamma sent my San Giuseppe statue in the mail - very carefully, of course!

Today is Mardi Gras, the last day of Carnivale at home (and in other places in the world). I miss the celebrations, the costumes and the masks. And the food! All of the food. There would be many cakes like cenci and chiacchere, and of course Grande Lasagna di Carnevale, which is always looked forward to. I know that mamma is making some of these things at home, as I was speaking with her on the telephone last night. I am jealous!

I have also just gone and made myself hungry. Even though I ate lunch only an hour ago. I shall make myself a snack so I have energy. I fell asleep in English class this morning and Signor Wright was not pleased.

It is Saint Valentine's Day this weekend. It is not such a big day in Italy, for it is an American imported day.

It has been picked up though and people do express their affection with tokens and romantic dinners. Baci Perugina is quite a popular sweet to give. I am going to get my mamma to send me some.

There would also be Carnevala celebrations this months, leading up to Ash Wednesday, which this year is on the 25th of this month. There are many parades and costumed events and festivals.

I need to decide what I shall give up for Lent this year. Last year it was chocolate, and it was terribly difficult to do so! But I made it the entire forty days. It is a good thing those Sundays are in there or it would be much more difficult! And Fridays will be meatless so I shall enjoy the vegetarian dishes on those days.

I do not like to study. It is terribly dull.

I have been studying for these exams all weekend long. Except for when I went to mass yesterday; that was a nice break. Since today is a holiday here in America, I went to mass as well, for something to do other than study.

Tonight I think that I will have a nice bubble bath with Vaughan and then have a nice sleep with Vaughan.

I do not have to go to school tomorrow; as I have been excused.

Tomorrow is Epifania, which is an important day in Italy. My mamma sent me back with gifts to be opened. There is surely some sugar coal in there.

It is tonight that Italian children hang up their stockings (for La Befana), not December 24th as it is for you Americans. It is sad to be here.

I will also go to mass tomorrow, and call mia famiglia.

I am glad that the holidays are here, and will be flying home to Venice on Monday. However I will miss Vaughan terribly

Christmas is quite different at home than it is here. On Christmas Eve we will all go around to look at all of the presepi - what you call the Nativity scenes. The baby Jesus is not put in to the crib until Christmas Eve. Everyone goes to see them and many are very elaborate and beautiful. Then there is a meal.

Natale (Christmas Day) is much more a religious day than it is here. There are some gifts exchanged and brought by Babbo Natale (who you call Santa Claus), but it is not so large as things are here. Gifts on Natale itself is a much more recent thing in Italy. Mass is the important part of the day; and spending time with family.

It is the Epifania that is the day for many gifts. La Befana comes the night before and gives presents to good boys and girls. And coal to those who have been bad. Since most children are at least a little bit bad during the year, most everyone recieves sugar-coal.

I will be here for Epifania, as classes will have started again by that point, which is sad.

He does not hate me anymore. This is good. Progress.

Monday was Immacolata Concezione. It is a feast day and a public holiay in Italy (as well as some other countries). I went to a church here, but there was no mass, of course. Not the proper sort of mass that there would have been at home. Afterwards there would have been a proper dinner with many good foods.

Mamma has sent my train ticket to meet them in New York and then we will all fly home for the holidays once school is finished.

È un ragazzo sventurato! Perché è così medio?

Mamma has sent me a calander for Advent. Not one of those sad ones with chocolates but a proper wooden one with little doors to be opened every day. I have already opened two. I have my Advent wreath set up as well. Mamma also sent me the candles to use. I lit the first candle on Sunday.

I am looking forward to the holidays. I will be going with my family back to Italy for the time, which will be very nice.

He is a strange boy. I do not know what to think of him, truly. I should not even like him at all, for he was mean and he took my things and he hurt me. And yet he is not so bad, not as I thought initially.

My foot does not hurt much anymore. There is a very large scab there and it is not pretty looking, but it will go away eventually.

We do not have Thanksgiving in Italy, and I find it a bit peculiar. It is a holiday just to give thanks? But is that not done on other Holiday, such as Christmas? And why are there so many days off of work and school for a holiday that only involves eating?

It is strange that such things are celebrated when other days, actual holy days are not. Like Immacolata Concezione in December is not mentioned at all here. I miss having a proper church to go to, one that celebrates all the holy days with real masses. The small churches here do not compare to those in Italy, which are large and beautiful and ancient.

They do not have proper masses here for All Saint's Day. Or All Soul's Day. It is very disappointing. I did go to the Church for both but I was mostly on my own. Quanto triste. And no feast! Mamma did send me some Ossi di Morto, though.

Winter is coming and I do not like it at all. I do not like the snow or the especially cold weather. When the winter comes I want to just stay in my room in my bed under all of the blankets with my own warmth. I especially do not like cold mornings. When winter comes I will wish for home where mamma would make me breakfast in bed.

I do not yet know if I wish to dress up for Halloween. And it is strange that All Saint's Day is not a holiday here. Although it is a Saturday so that is not so bad.

There is an awful, awful boy here. He is terrible. I want to cut off all of his hair. Someone so horrid should not have such nice, long, pretty hair! He is a filthy boy, and stupid as well. He tried to steal my things! And he made me bleed. And wrote on my door! I should tell mother. Or the teachers here. Stupid, stupid boy. I hate him!

There was a math test on Friday. How horrible. I do not like tests. Or classes at all. I do not like to sit for so long and just listen. And math! When will I ever need to use such things? I know how to add and subtract and do the basics. The rest seems so unnecessary.

I do like the grounds of this school, the nice sprawling lawns. The grass is so cool against my skin this time of year and I like to just lie and look at the stars. You can see them very well from here. Not like in New York. But even still, this place is not home, and I still long to return. Mama says that we will go for the Christmas holidays.

Speaking of mother, she has sent me some new sheets. For the sheets on these beds are so scratchy and unpleasant. Most unsatisfying! But she has sent me some that are lovely and soft and now I just want to snuggle down and sleep for days and days.

I am bored. I do not understand how people spend quite so much time on their computers. I am going to get a snack and then go for a walk.
